Referencing in the APA style

The reference system used in health science education at Mälardalen University is the American Psychological Association (APA). You will find how to refer according to the APA in the "Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association".

In the autumn of 2019, a new 7th edition was issued by the APA manual. During a transition period, both the 6th and the 7th edition will apply when you refer. You can find a summary of the news in APA 7 in APA Style's own guide.

The American Psychological Association has also made an electronic guide called Academic Writer Tutorial: Basics of Seventh Edition APA Style. You will find it via the link following below.

The American Psychological Association has also produced the "APA Style Blog" blog, where you will find answers to your questions about reference management. You can click through the menu of different topics or use the search box to find what you are looking for. You will find the link following below.

Using reference management software

While you are writing you will soon realize that the number of references needing to be kept in order is steadily growing. A big help with this is reference management software. First it helps you gather and organize your references. You can then integrate the managed references with your MS Word essay text document so that you can pick up each reference automatically while you write.
