Consequences of plagiarism

What consequences does plagiarism have and how are investigations made? The penalty for a student who has been found to have plagiarised is, in normal cases, suspension from studies for a period of six weeks. During the period of suspension you have no right to your student loan from CSN (the Swedish Board of Student Finance). Note that the Disciplinary Board does not in normal cases take any account of alleged ignorance of plagiarism, since students at Mälardalen University have an obligation to find out what rules are applicable.
