What is EndNote?

EndNote is a reference management software program that will help you collect and organise your references and documents. You can integrate the program into MS Word so that you can create automatic bibliographies in your text and reference lists. 

EndNote will take care of creating bibliographies for your scientific and scholarly papers. EndNote format citations and bibliographies, searching for and entering references, and finding full-text articles to EndNote.

How does EndNote work?

 

EndNote Desktop 
  • EndNote is a program that is installed locally on your computer (Endnote desktop) 
  • Your references in Endnote desktop are saved on your hard drive 
  • If you are a student or employee at Mälardalen University, you can download Endnote desktop free of charge. 
Word
  • When you install Endnote desktop, a plug-in to Word, "Cite While You Write" is installed 
  • "Cite While You Write" gives you access to the references in your Endnote library and allows you to link them to your text. 
EndNote Online
  • EndNote online is an online version of Endnote desktop and enables access to your references from any computer. 
  • EndNote online can be used on its own or in connection with Endnote desktop as a "mirror" and back-up of your EndNote library. 
EndNote Basic
  • EndNote basic is free to use and you do not need to have any software (EndNote desktop) installed on your computer. Create an account at myendnoteweb.com EndNote basic has fewer features than EndNote Online and EndNote Desktop.
