An EndNote library is a database and for it to work properly, the program must save files in a specific order. An EndNote library is therefore sensitive to any type of automatic backup that can interfere with the application's own synchronisation process. Please do not save your EndNote library on cloud storage such as iCloud, Dropbox, OneDrive, Suite Sync, Google Drive, Box, etc. 

Save your EndNote library to a location that is on your local hard drive on your computer. It is recommended that you save the library under C:/User/"your username".

Save back-ups of your EndNote library

As soon as you have created a library with a large number of references, it is advisable to save a compressed library file as a back-up in case something should happen to your computer. You can save the compressed library file to any location.

If your compressed library (.enlx) is saved to OneDrive or any cloud storage (OneDrive, SharePoint, Box Sync, Google Drive, and iCloud), we recommend that you copy the files to another location on your computer before opening them.
